Shopping4Good was first conceived as a fundraiser for the wildlife documentary Hareport: Wildlife Control at Our Nation's Airports. The documentary seeks to educate the public on the current issues of man vs. the environment in the context of aviation safety. Using the rescue efforts for the Miami International Airport Jackrabbits as a microcosm of the larger issues, the documentary research has ultimately shown that non-lethal methods of removing wildlife can be more effective than lethal means. We don't have to kill wildlife to save lives. Now people need to know how to be successful at it.
While the documentary is not non-profit, it takes a tremendous amount of work and expense. Equipment, travel, and incidentals cost quite a bit, and the time involved in shooting and preparing for the documentary has been monumental. Dragon Under Glass, Stepping Stone Productions, volunteers, and students at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale have selflessly donated their time, equipment, and sweat equity to make it work out, but equipment and time donations do not cover all of the expenses. The documentary has so far incurred thousands of dollars of expenses, which are currently being funded by the credit cards of an under-employed writer/producer/director.
The students and volunteers deserve to be reimbursed for expenses and time, and funding would certainly give the documentary a boost. The documentary is not non-profit, but it will achieve good. Who will help?
Shopping4Good is proud to donate 30% of all profits to endeavors such as the Hareport documentary. Endeavors that are not non-profit can still be very good.
